Sarkar Lab shines in NAPIC Inaugural Conference

Date

Sarkar Lab was well-represented at the NAPIC Inaugural conference, Sheffield, UK with 2 flash talks, 10 posters and a food booth of MicroLub  (spinout company from Sarkar Lab). Prof. Sarkar (PI Sarkar Lab and Co-Director, National Alternative Protein Innovation Centre (NAPIC)) hosted the fire side chat with 4 experts (spinouts and investors) including Dr. Andrea Araiza-Calahorra (Technical Director of MicroLub, ex-PhD student and postdoc of Sarkar Lab).

Jennifer Mclauchlan (PhD Student, SoFI2 CDT and Oatly) presented a poster titled "Systematic enzyme cleavage of an oat protein-beta-glucan co-extract: a surface adsorption study."

Xin Qi (Visiting PhD Student, CSC Chinese Scholarship) presented a poster titled "Design of plant-protein based food gels for dysphagia patients: Rheology and tribology study."

Dr. Taskeen Niaz (NAPIC R&I Fellow) presented a poster on  "Gastrointestinal digestion of alternative proteins: Semi dynamic in-vitro study" and a flash talk on "Digestion of alternative proteins."
Dr. Ben Kew (NAPIC R&I Fellow) presented a flash talk and a poster on "From lab to product: How understanding oral tribology can streamline protein food formulation."

Dr. Tom Bailey (NAPIC R&I Fellow) presented a poster titled "Protein flour: Future of alternative protein emulsifiers"

Mingxin Wang (PhD student, British Council Grant ISPF) presented a poster on "Enzymatic hydrolysis: an approach to tune the mouthfeel of plant proteins."

Sowmya Narsipur (PhD Student, CDT Molecules to Product) presented a poster on "Deciphering yeast-stabilised emulsions: Pickering vs. molecular stabilisation."

Dr. Simha Sridharan (Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow, UKRI Guarantee Fund) presented a poster on "Uncovering plant proteins with β-casein like properties: A computational approach."

Megan Holdstock (PhD Student, SoFI2 CDT and Nestle) presented a poster on "Insights into the dispersion behaviour of plant protein particles in non-aqueous media."

Maryam Afzali Haji Dela (NAPIC Research Technician) presented a poster on "De-structuring as a pathway to improve plant protein emulsification."
