Sarkar Lab Well Represented at UK Colloids 2023 (17 - 19 July 2023), Jenny wins the First Poster Prize

Date

UK Colloids 2023 (17 - 19 July 2023), the fourth colloid science conference in the series was jointly organised by the RSC’s Colloid and Interface Science Group and the SCI’s Colloid and Surface Science Group at Liverpool, UK.

Sarkar Lab was well-represented with 2 oral and 8 poster presentations covering various aspects of colloid science including fabrication of microgels, Pickering emulsions with complex interfaces, conjugates, bicontinuous gels and understanding of structure-performance relationships of various soft materials including plant proteins through a range of advanced multiscale tribology measurements, imaging and complementary surface tools.

The spotlight was on Jennifer McLauchlan (PhD Student, EPSRC SoFI2 CDT + Oatly) who won the First Poster Prize for her work titled "Oat protein: Understanding so far on structure-function relationship”. Huge congratulations to Jenny.

Amna Khatun (PhD Student, EPSRC CDT Molecules to Product) presented poster titled "Biodegradability assessment of model engineered microparticles'"

Dr. Andrea Araiza-Calahorra (Postdoctoral Fellow, UKRI MicroLub Project) presented a poster titled "Designing protein-rich fat emulsions and emulsion gels: relating tribological performance to microstructure".

Ben Kew (PhD Student, ERC LubSat Project) presented a talk titled "Oral tribology in developing next generation plant protein foods: Reducing astringency, improving functionality and in fat replacement".

Cristhian Lopes Francisco (PhD Student, FAPESP, Brazil) presented a poster titled "Frictional performance of lupin protein-grape seed extract conjugates."

Daisy Z. Akgonullu (PhD Student, EPSRC SoFI2 CDT + PepsiCo) presented a poster titled "Influence of protein concentration on the performance of sustainable biopolymeric microgels".

Elizabeth Tenorio Garcia (PhD Student, Conacyt, Mexico) presented a poster titled "Double emulsions stabilized with natural Pickering particles"

Mingxin Wang (Research Assistant, UKRI Healthy Ageing Zinc Catalyst Project) presented  a poster titled "An investigation into lubrication properties of potato protein-pectin mixtures and conjugated systems."

Dr. Siavash Soltanahmadi (Postdoctoral Fellow, ERC LubSat Project) presented a talk titled "Multiscale and multi-stage lubrication properties of edible particle-filed phase change fluids".

Yao Lu (PhD Student, CSC Chinese Scholarship, China) presented a poster titled "Tribological properties of phase-changing emulsion-filled gels regulated by sugar alcohols"
