Two new starters at Sarkar Lab - Welcome Bianca and Jenny!

Date

Two new members have joined Sarkar Lab! Welcome Jennifer (Jenny) A. McLauchlan and Bianca Hatz (left to right in the photograph):

Both Jenny and Bianca are PhD students, part of the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Soft Matter for Formulation and Industrial Innovation (SOFI2), funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Bianca has done her Bachelors and Masters degree (with emphasis on Physical Chemistry) from Fedreral University of Parana, Brazil where she focused on designing water-in-water emulsions stabilized by protein microgels or nanofibrils. Bianca's PhD partly funded by Reckitt Benckiser will be on understanding mucoadhesion and drug delivery performance of biocompatible microgels and she is co-supervised by Prof. Daniel Ries and Dr. Oliver Harlen (School of Mathematics), Prof. Wilson Poon (School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Edinburgh) and Dr. Mariam Hussain (Reckitt Benckiser). In her free time, Bianca enjoys puzzles, baking, sightseeing and Pilates.

Jenny has graduated with a Master of Chemistry degree from the University of York and completed her final year project with Lubrizol on colloidal dispersions of engine oil contaminants. Jenny’s PhD, partly funded by Oatly focuses on designing and characterizing biocompatible microgels including their mouthfeel performance and she is co-supervised by Dr. Arwen Tyler (School of Food Science and Nutrition), Dr. Buddhapriya Chakraborty (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Sheffield) and Prof. Caroline Orfila (Oatly).

We wish both Jenny and Bianca a great start into their PhD journey!
